Photographing Svalbard - searching for polar bears.

Embark on an extraordinary journey to find polar bears and other wildlife. Svalbard and the surrounding area offer unforgettable polar experiences that will keep you and your cameras in constant action. Although 60% of the area is covered by glaciers and much of the terrain is mountainous, you will be surprised by stretches of colourful tundra and optional activities will bring you up close to the local wildlife.

Your Arctic expedition begins in Oslo, where you and your group will take a private charter to Longyearbyen, the gateway to the ice kingdom. Here you will board the Ultramarine, Quark Expeditions' newest polar ship, designed to protect the environment as much as possible, but with everything you need to explore the polar regions. The ship is also equipped with two twin-engine helicopters, which will make exploring the untouched areas even greater experience. As you cruise along the coast, you'll be amazed by snow-capped mountain ranges, cliffs, fjords and massive glaciers. But that's not all, the main thing is still to come. Untouched tundra, walrus colonies that are only a few metres away, seals and, most importantly, the king of the Arctic, the polar bear. Seeing a polar bear in its natural habitat is an experience of a lifetime. Throughout the cruise we will be totally immersed in the natural wonders of this land of the midnight sun that you will not want it to end. Will you next go to Greenland, the North Pole or perhaps prefer the penguin colonies in South Georgia and Antarctica?
